Roland Nationale Qualifikationen – Deutschland, Österreich, Kanada, Republik Tschechien

Deutschland/Österreich: Am 27 September wurden von Roland Deutschland die nationalen Bewerbe für Deutschland und Österreich in Norderstedt, abgehalten. 5 Spieler wurden für die Solokategorie und 4 Gruppen für die Ensemblekategorie ausgewählt.
Die Gewinner sind für die Kategorie Solo: 1.Uwe Steger (Foto links), 2. Michael Lutz, 3. Alexander Danko; Für die Kategorie Ensemble: 1. Lena und Vadim Samorsky (foto rechts), 2. - Christian Möller und Mario Nortmann, 3. - Heinrich und Cornelius Reichert. Jury: Manfred Kaierle, Anton Saupruegl und Heiko Kremers.
Kanada: Hervorragende Vorstellung von John Lettieri (Foto rechts) aus Ontario - Gewinner des 1. Roland V-Accordion Bewebes, welches am 11. Oktober im Hansa Haus, Maple, Ontario stattfand.
2. Platz ging an Alessio Mazzone und 3. Platz and John Scaffeo, beide aus Ontario.
Czech Republic: Am 12. Oktober fand das tschechische Finale im Kulturhaus Ládví, in Prag statt. Umkämpftes Finale in der Solokategorie, welches von Michal Polák (Foto links) gewonnen wurde – er spielte: ‘Basso Ostinato’ von Viktor Vlasov und 2 Sonaten von Domenico Scarlatti. An 2. Stelle reihte sich Konstantin Mankovski vor dem 10jährigen David Schovanek.
In der Ensemble Kategorie plazierte sich das Trio l´Arrachecoeur (hurdy - gurdy, Klarinett und Akkordeon – Foto rechts) mit ihrer Eigenkomposition ‘Lever le Pouce’ und ‘Petit Reggae’ an erste Stelle.
In der Jury: Ladislav Kníze, Frantisek Holec, Jamu Brno und Zdenek Urbanovský.
Die Gewinner (erstplazierte) jeder Kategorie aus jedem teilnehmenden Land werden im Internationalen Finale am 9. und 10. November in Pesaro/Italien teilnehmen.

Der finnische Akkordeonkünstler Mika Väyrynen wird am Sonntag den 21. Oktober in Estonien ein neues Konzert für Akkordeon und Symphonyorchester ‘Prophecy’ von Erkki-Sven Tüür, vortragen. Er spielt mit dem Estonischen National Symphonieiorchestrer unter der Leitung von Olari Elts. Das Schlusskonzert des Modern Music Festivals wird live im Estonischen Radios übertragen.
Mika stellte die Premiere dieses Stückes in Turku/Finland vor, welches eines der wichtigesten Werke für Akkordeon ist und sich einer ausgezeichneten Kritik sowohl von den Zuhörern sowie Musikkritikern erfreuen konnte. Der bekannte finnische Komponist Erkki-Sven Tüür wurde bereits für Komposition für das Helsinki Philharmonieorchester, das Hilliard Ensemble, das Stockholm Saxophone Quartet und das Birmingham Symphonie-Orchestra beauftragt.
Niko Kumpuvaara im Sibelius & Beyond Festival, London – GB
Ein Akkordeonrecital mit Musik von Kalevi Aho und Jouni Kaipainen, neuen Werken und eine Weltpremiere wird vom finnischen Akkordeonisten Niko Kumpuvaara, in der St. George's Kirche, Hanover Square, London am Dienstag den 27. Novmeber um 19.30 vorgetragen.
Das Konzert ist Teil des Sibelius & Beyond Festivals, welches vom September bis Dezember zum 50jährigen Todestages des bekannten Komponisten Jean Sibelius abgehalten wird.
Weiters im Programm von Niko Kumpuvaara: Sampo Haapamäki – ‘Power’, Lauri Kilpiö - New work WORLD PREMIERE, Jukka Tiensuu – ‘Zolo’, Jouni Kaipainen – ‘Gena’, Kalevi Aho - Sonata No. 2, ‘Black Birds’, and Olli Virtaperko – ‘Devil’s Lungs’.
Gigi Stok (1920-2003), from Parma, Italy, is remembered today as one of his country’s most accomplished accordionists and composers. Stok is famous for introducing virtuosity into Italian dance music, thereby raising the profile of the accordion and its technical possibilities within that genre. His many compositions have proved enduringly popular with accordionists. In 2001 Gigi Stok was awarded a Life Achievement Award at the London Accordion Festival.
London accordionist Romano Viazzani has now perpetuated the memory of the great man by recording a solo CD of Gigi Stok compositions, including ‘Brioso’, ‘Armonica Indiavolata’, ‘Vecchi Ricordi’, ‘Elettrico’, ‘L’Italiano a Parigi’, ‘Penombra’, ‘Cuore Vagabondo’, ‘Signora Fisarmonica’, ‘Tango Gagliardo’, ‘Silenzio Fuori Ordinanza’, ‘La Doccia’ and ‘Doges City’.
Their repertoire consisted of French and Russian music. Apart from numerous top Romanian players, the guest list included several well-known French accordionists, including Pascal Contet, who performed a program of contemporary music, bandonéon player Jean Demeaux, and the veteran accordionist Marcel Azzolla, who was accompanied by pianist Lina Bossati.
The festival was organised by Emy Dragoï, and next year’s event takes place in September 2008.
The Zero Sette Akordeoi Orkestra, from San Sebastián in the Basque region of Northern Spain, are in concert as follows:

The Victor Prieto Tio, including Carlo DeRosa - bass, and Vince Cherico – drums, perform at the Tea Lounge, 837 Union St. (between 6th and 7th Ave), Park Slope, Brooklyn, on November 10th, 9pm.
Budd Kopman, writing in ’All About Jazz’, commented: ”Prieto plays accordion the way Toots Thielmans plays harmonica or Dino Saluzzi plays bandoneon. He transcends the instrument and just plays music”.
From October 27th to November 11th, the fourth Festival Internacional Acordeões do Mundo (World Accordion Festival) will take place in Torres Vedras, near Lisbon. This non-competitive festival involves national and international artistes and presents a variety of styles.

On October 28th John Kirkpatrick will hold two workshops at Fleetville Community Centre, Royal Road, St Albans, Hertfordshire. In the morning, 11am to 1.30pm, the workshop will focus on playing the right hand treble keyboard on the B/C/C# British chromatic button accordion, and the afternoon session, 2.30pm to 5pm, will focus on left hand techniques. In the evening, at 8pm, Kirkpatrick will be in concert at The Maltings Arts Theatre, St Albans.
Roger Morand (picture left) & Bandzydeco (picture right) are in concert at the Salle des Oeuvres, Fête de la Vote festival, Florac, region Languedoc-Roussillon, on November 9th, 11pm.
Accordionists Jean-Louis Noton, Peter and Mady Soave have been invited to hold one of their well-known IMAC (International Music Accordion Camp) teaching courses at the next Las Vegas Accordion Convention, October 6th to 9th 2008. The LVAC takes place at the Gold Coast Hotel, Las Vegas.
