Breaking News, Gert Nijkamp Murdered - Netherlands

Gert Nijkamp from the Musiekhuis Gert Nijkamp in Apeldoorn, Holland has been shot this morning outside of the school of his son - 21st of June!

He has run this musikhuis for 20 years and has just recently organised an accordion weekend with Renzo Ruggieri as special guest on the 2/3 June.

It appears that two people on motorcycles came next to his car and shot him through the window in gangland style. This murder is possibly connected to the Casino Gert Nijkamp was planning to open. Gert Nijkamp who was 47 years of age and leaves behind: a son and wife Anita.

An updated report from the Dutch Police says that the Police sent sms messages to over 2,500 people in the area of the Primary School to try and get a better description of the person who fired the gun shots and for general leads to find the murderers.

5. Weltmeisterschaft für Steirische Harmonika, Sterzing/Vitipeno - Italien

Der 5. Internationale Wettbewerb (Weltmeisterschaft) für Steirische und Diatonische Harmonika wurden in Sterzing/Vitipeno, Italien, vom 07. Bis zum 10. Juni abgehalten. Der Event, welcher nationale sowie internationale Kategorien für Kandidaten aus aller Welt angeboten hatte, wurde von über 130 Kandidaten aus Österreich, Italien, Deutschland, Slowenien und der Ukraine besucht.

Das Niveau der Leistungen verbessert sich ständig und alle Teilnehmer boten eine große Anzahl and Musikrichtungen mit verschiedensten Themen, die beim vielzähligem Publikum im Teatro Comunale Vitipeno großen Anklang fanden Der Gewinner der internationalen Seniorklasse war der junge Tiroler Markus Oberleitner, der bereits die Juniorenklasse in Saalfelden vor zwei Jahre gewann. Der 2. und 3. ging an Matej Banovsek und Primoz Zvir aus Slowenien.

Der junge Michael Rettig gewann die Juniorenmeisterschaft und die zweit-und drittplazierten waren Necj Pacnik und Matic Stavar, aus Slowenien. Die nationalen Preisgewinner in den jeweiligen Kategorien waren Martin Josef Jungmaier (A), Verena Kapl (B), Luis Geiser (C) und Andrea Kern (D).

Der gesamte Wettbewerb war ein großer Erfolg für den Harmonika Verband Österreich (HVO), der diesen internationalen Wettbewerb das 5. Mal organisiert hatte. Der nächste Event wird im May/Juni 2009 in St. Johann/Tirol, stattfinden.

An A to Z of the Accordion
Sata-Häme Accordion Festival – Finnland

Inmitten von idyllischen Parks, Holzhäusern, Seen und wird diese attractive Festival in Ikaalinen abgehalten, das jährlich ca. 30.000 Besucher und 800 finnische Künstler anlockt. Während des Festivals werden allerlei Festivitäten geboten – Konzerte, Tanzveranstaltungen, Schiffsausflüge mit Akkordeonmusik etc. Und man hört alle Arten von Musik von traditionellen Klängen bis hin zu Musette, russischer Musik, Argentischen Tango, Jazz, Amerikanischen TEX-MEX und Zydeco oder Lateinamerikanische Melodien.

Akkordeonwettbewerbe sind ein wesentlicher Teil des Festivalprogramms und beinhalten den Finnischen Akkordeon Folk Musikwettbewerb. Der “Goldene Akkordeon” Wettbewerb wird am 27. Juni und der “Primus Ikaalinen” Wettbewerb am 29. Juni stattfinden.

Der 3. Internationale Primus Ikaalinen Akkordeonwettbewerb präsentiert dem Publikum 7 internationale Konkurrenten. Pietro Adragna (Italien), Julien ‘Speedy’ Gonzales (Frankreich), Wang Ii (China), Amaia Iraola (Spanien), Grayson Masefield (Neuseeland), Veronika Todorova (Bulgarien), Bojan Volcevski (Mazedonien) und den Gewinner des Goldenen Akkordeons 2007. Die Hauptaustragungsorte des Festivals in Ikaalinen sind die Kirche, die Ikaalinen Hall und Oma Tupa. Diese Wettbewerbe werden live im finnischen Fernseh übertragen.

Internationale Gäste: Alexander Shirunov - Russand, Renzo Ruggieri – Italien, Alexander Poeluev – Russland, Julien “Speedy” Gonzales & Cyril Carbonne (Klarinette) - Frankreich, Valentin Osipov (Konzertina und Xylophone) – Russland, das Baltic Accordion Quintet und Zum/Großbritannien sein.

Pineto Jazz Akkordeon Festival, Abruzzen - Italien

Das Pineto Jazz Akkorddeon Festival findet vom 20. bis zum 22. Juli statt. Sein Ziel ist es, Jazz Akkordeonisten hervorzuheben und anzuregen. Die Performer sind: Renzo Ruggieri, Luciano Biondini, (beide aus Italien) Renato Borghetti (Brasilien), Sergio Caputo (USA), und die Dixieland Brass Band, unter der Leitung von Pine Mannello. Der Eintritt ist für alle Konzerte konstenlos.

In den vergangenen Jahren stieg die jährliche Teilnahme von 2500 auf 4000 und die Akkordeonisten, die das Festival in den letzten Jahren kennzeichneten sind
Peppino Principe, Art Van Damme, Frank Marocco, Germano Mazzocchetti and Renzo Ruggieri. Das Festival findet in der wundervollen Küstenstadt Pineto in der Nähe des Flughafens Pescara statt.

Riccardo Galimi and Gianluca Casadei have been awarded maximum points in their Jazz Music Diploma courses at the Pareggia Music Institute. They are the first graduates of the special jazz course taught by Renzo Ruggieri. Luca prepared his thesis on the accordionist Antonello Salis, and Riccardo on the pianist Theloniuos Monk.

Scottish Traditional Music Graded Exams, Glasgow – UK

The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) Traditional Music Grade Exams would like to announce that they will be implementing an exam sessions up to Grade 5 in three syllabuses – fiddle, accordion and harp. Their first exam session will be held during the RSAMD Fèis (festival) in Glasgow from October 21st to 28th 2007.

RSAMD reports receiving financial backing for the validation of the syllabii and the website featuring full syllabii and registration details, to be announced at an official launch of the exam program in late July or early August.

The Ins and Outs of the Accordion

After the very successful Musical Festival in Scarborough in May 2007, the NAO Executive Committee are delighted to have accepted an offer to hold the 2008 festival on the North west Coast of England at the famous seaside town of Blackpool.

The event will be held in the centre of the town on the famous Blackpool North Pier and at the nearby magnificent Metropole Hotel from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th April 2008. (Download Acrobat File - size 250KB).

Anne Landa this month inaugurates a new higher course of study for accordion in Madrid. The course aims to develop an accordionist’s formation as a musician.

The cultural association Acco Land, is responsible for organising the new course, which is open to Spanish and overseas accordionists.

The course offers flexible modes of study, concerts, and the opportunity to meet other accordion students in Madrid.

The International Accordion Summer Seminar run by the Lithuanian Accordion Association takes place in Palanga from August 1st to 7th. The event includes accordion orchestra rehearsals conducted by Professor Ricardas Sviackevicius, lessons, master classes, and concerts.
