Das American Accordion Musicological Society Accordion Festiva findet vom 2. bis 4. Màrz im Valley Forge Inn in Valley Forge, Philadelphia statt.
Die Festivitäten beginnen am Freitag mit einem Cajun/Zydeco Konzert mit Ric Kaplan und der Konzertistin Lidia Kaminska. Weiters im Programm Wettbewerbe in verschiedenen Kategorien und Akkordeon-Workshops. Siegerehrung ist am Sonntag mit Darbietungen der Festival Massed Band, Mary Tokarski, Jim Vandelly, Rita Davidson, Tony Lovello und Bobby Raye.
Während des Gala-Abendessens werden in diesem Jahr Stanley Darrow und Lenny Feldmann, der auch als ‘The Cordeen Man’ bekannt ist, ausgezeichnet. Auf der Bühne die Gastkünstler Tony Lovello und Vitaliy Pirog.

Das monatlich erscheinende französische Akkordeonmagazin ‘Accordéon et Accordéonistes’ publiziert eine große Anzahl von illustrierten Artikeln mit ausführlicher Information für alle Akkordeonliebhaber.
Auf der Februar Titelseite ist Pascal Hamard, der aktuelle Stern der französischen Akkordeonszene. Im Mittelteil der Zeitschrift finden Sie herauszunehmende Lehr-Artikel von entweder Frédéric Deschamps oder Jacques Mornet, die jeden Monat die Basis ihrer Lehrmethoden preisgeben. In diesem Monat gibt es Information von Frederic Deschamps.
Die letzten 5 Seiten des Magazins sind CD’s, DVD’s, Büchern, Videos und Musik gewidmet.
Josh Dickson, schreibt im Auftrag der Royal Scottish Academy für Musik und Drama und der Scottish Traditional Music Graded Exams project:
“Was für ein Jahr 2006! Viel Aufwand und Zeit und Energie wurde von großen Anzahl von motivierten Personen aufgebracht um ein äußerst effektives und hochqualitatives Programm für Fiddle, Akkordeon und schottische Harfe zusammenzustellen. Öffentliche Präsentationen fanden von Ayr bis Auchtermuchty und von Lochaber bis Aberdeen statt, wodurch ein großer Input an nützlicher Information gesammelt werden konnte.
75 Kandidaten nahmen an einer Videokonferenz in 4 Städten und 2 Inselgemeinden teil.
Dieses Schema/Videokonferenzen wurden dann noch mehrmals in den Städten Benbecula, Lewis, Orkney und Shetland wiederholt, um damit den Grundstein für eine neue Kommunikation zu geben.
Nach Rückkehr aus der südlichen Hemisphäre (Fidschi Inseln und Neuseeland) war für den CIA Kongress, Konzerte und Masterklassen unterwegs war, ist Frédéric Deschamps wieder in der Heimat um seine Studenten am 3. und 4. März in La Selle sur le Bied auf die Qualifikation zur Teilnahme am Coupe Mondial vorzubereiten.
Bei den französischen nationalen Qualifikationen wird eine hochkarätige Jury present sein: CNFA (Confédération National Française de l’Accordéon – Lydie Kotala, Frédéric Deschamps, Phil Bouvier und Max Bonnay), CIA/Vorstand Kevin Friedrich (USA), und Vice Vorstand der CIA/CMA (Confédération Mondiale de l’Accordéon), Raymond Bodell aus Großbritannien.
Während des Events steht im Programm ein Festival mit ehemaligen Wettbewerbsgewinnern wie Jerome Richard, Domi Emorine, etc.

Der 10. Balkanfolk Workshop ist ein internationales Seminar für Balkanmusik und Tanz in Bankya, ca. 15 km von der Hauptstadt Sofia entfernt.
Vom 15. bis 28. Juli unterrichten die in bulgarischer und serbischer Musik spezialisierten Akkordeonlehrer Danail Totev und Predrag Ivanoviæ.
Neben dem Seminar-Unterrichtsprogramm gibt es 2 Tage die der Erholung und Kultur gewidmet sind: 1. Ausflug in den Vitosha Nationalpark und ein Besuch im Historischen Nationalmuseum in Sofia.
The Unusual Suspects is a Celtic Big Band formed to perform at the annual Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 2003 by harpist Corrina Hewatt and pianist David Milligan, The Unusual Suspects has over 20 musicians, including accordionists Martin Green and Brian McAlpine.
The Unusual Suspects is more of an idea than a regular line-up judging by the number of new faces on display at the festival’s closing weekend. But what a great idea it is — adding a four-piece horn section, half a dozen fiddles, two piano accordions, extra rhythm and percussion and other doublings to more conventional arrangements.
First and foremost, the sheer numbers do make for a joyful noise. But it is far more than that. This is an idea that people are currently trying to emulate all over the Celtic music world. Using mostly traditional tunes but drawing on lots of jazz influences, the brass is often a sustained choir while the accordions or fiddles are carrying the melody. Together, they add colour, depth and the kind of variety that traditional music, with the best will in the world, sometimes lacks.
The band was cheered to the echo by a delirious crowd, partly because this was such a rare treat.
The band is to headline the 50th anniversary celebrations of the European Union in Berlin next month, playing to an anticipated crowd of 25,000 at the Brandenburg Gate, which should raise their profile a notch.
‘Winter Days of Accordion in Nizhny Tagil’ – Russia
Hungarian accordionist Zoltan Orosz, with guitarist Gabor Ursu and bass player Csaba Pengo were invited to perform at the ‘Winter Days of Accordion in Nizhny Tagil’ Festival.
This competition for young accordionists that took place from February 16th to 18th. Nizhny Tagil is a town 150 km north from the city of Yekaterinburg. Zoltan Orosz took part in the jury, (Zoltan Orosz pictured on the right).
The Zoltan Orosz Trio received a very warm welcome from local audience, especially as the outside temperature was below -30°C. Their program included: ‘La Foule’, ‘Carioca’, ‘Dark Eyes’, ‘French Touch’, ‘Lark’, ‘Laurita’, ‘Fou Rire’, ‘Tico-Tico’, ‘Idu Svati’, and ‘Libertango’.
Von 24. Februar bis 25. März findet das achte internationale Akkordeon-Festival in Wien statt. Vier Wochen lang begeistern über 200 nationale und internationale Stars sowie Newcomer der Akkordeon-Szene mit dreißig Konzerten das musikbegeisterte Publikum.
Das Akkordeon - mehr als ein volkstümliches Instrument
Das Akkordeon ist noch immer ein unterschätztes Instrument. Bereits mehrmals bewiesen ist, dass die Ziehharmonika mehr als nur ein volkstümliches Instrument ist. Von Tango über Balkan-Grooves bis zu Jazz - in den Bälgen des Akkordeons fühlen sich nahezu alle Stile und Genres zu Hause.
Vielfältige Darbietungen
Im Rahmen des Festivals lädt der Dschungel Wien an insgesamt vier Nachmittagen zu einem "Magic Afternoon" für Kinder und Jugendliche. Beim "Filmbrunch" erwarten die Besucherinnen und Besucher Stummfilmklassiker mit Live-Akkordeonbegleitung. Musikalisch untermalte Lesungen stehen im Literatursalon des Filmcasinos am Programm.
Es treten auf: Raúl Barboza, Renato Borghetti, Marinette Bonnert & Pere Romaní, Chili Cheeps, Heinz Ditsch, Krzysztof Dobrek, Richard Galliano, Otto Lechner, Martin Lubenov, Madagascar All Stars, Motion Trio, Klaus Paier, Ciro Perez, with his Trio P.S.P., Sascha Shevchenko, Beni Schmid, with Stian Carstensen and Georg Breinschmied, Stefan Sterzinger, Riccardo Tesi, Tini Trampler, Attwenger and Roland Neuwirth, Ulrich Kodjo Wendt, and Zamballarana, und viele andere.
The NAO UK Championships are to be held on the weekend 4th to 6th May 2007 in Scarborough, Yorkshire. Details of the Opening Gala have recently been announced.
The evening will commence with the Romany Rye and be compered by Gina Brannelli (Past NAO Chairperson) – International stars include Grayson Masefield (New Zealand - picture left), Mario D’Amario – CIA Junior Virtuoso Entertainment Champion 2006 (Italy) and famous jazz accordionist Renzo Ruggiero (Italy - picture right). The evening will provide a wonderful start to a weekend full of competitions and entertainment.
French accordionist Jean Louis Noton performs a concert using his midi Cavagnolo on February 26th, from 10am until 12noon. This concert is part of the Musiche Dal Mondo Festival, February 22nd to 26th, which includes jazz, tango, flamenco, folk, swing and other international forms of music.
The festival also includes a performance on February 23rd, 10am until 12noon, featuring the Eros Tango Project – accordion, guitar and piano trio.
The violin and cello trio Kosmos and accordionist Milos Milivojevic perform Jewish, Gypsy, Balkan, Contemporary and Tango music in the relaxed atmosphere of the Cafe Consort at London’s Royal Albert Hall on February 23rd, from 12 until 1.30pm.
Renzo Ruggieri’s forthcoming schedule includes a performance at the San Remo Festival with the singer Antonella Ruggiero, from February 27th to March 3rd.
In January, the Renzo Ruggieri Quartet recorded the CD ‘Musica Divina’.

Der Handharmonika Club Nufringen präsentiert am Samstag den 17.03.2007 unter der Leitung von Dirigent Günther Stoll "Melodien aus aller Welt". Ein abwechslungsreiches Programm mit Hits und Evergreens der letzten Jahrzehnte. Mitreißend die Melodien aus der "Fledermaus" aber auch unvergängliche Titel für Volksmusikfreunde sind mit dabei. Erleben sie alle Aktiven des HHC mit einem musikalischen Feuerwerk, das gute Laune macht.
In der Pause gibt es Köstlichkeiten vom Buffet und eine reichhaltige Tombola. Für die kleinen Gäste ein extra Kinderangebot zu moderaten Taschengeldpreisen.

Der Akkordeonist und Organist Jon Hammond wird mit seinem Quartet und dem hervorragenden ungarischen Sax-Tenor Tony Lakatos seine alljährliche ‘Musikmesse Warm Up Party’ am 27 März – wie immer im Jazzkeller in Frankfurt zu sehen und vor allem zu hören sein. Der Jazzkeller befindet sich im Stadtzentrum, nahe der Alten Oper in der Kleinen Bockenheimerstrasse.
‘Land of Legends: A Journey through the Carpathian Mountains’ is the title of a show presenting Polish, Hungarian and other mid-European music and dance, to be held at the Ritz Theater, Northeast Minneapolis, April 19th to 22nd. Performances are at 8pm each night, with a matinee at 2pm on Sunday 22nd.
The EDT Folk Orchestra, featuring Dee Langley on accordion, will perform the music. According to Colleen Bertsch, music director, "The orchestra is incredibly excited to play the music that Liszt, Brahms, Dvorak, and Bartok found worthy of using as their creative muse. Once you hear traditional music from the Carpathians, you will understand why the great masters depended on this deep well of material: it's earthy, sexy, passionate, and real.”
