Die erste Solo CD „Under Duress“ von Akkordeonist Eddie Hessison kreuzt klassische Jazzteile mit Arrangements von zwei Jazzgrößen, Chick Corea und Bill Evans. Für ihn wurden verschiedene Arbeiten geschrieben: vom britischen zeitgenössischen Komponist David Gordon – “Eddi-Fis Suite”, von Adam Summerhayes – “Under Duress Suite” und „Inveirno Portenoa“, eine Komposition vom Tangomeister Astor Piazzolla.
Eine Kritik lautet: Die CD nimmt den Zuhörer auf eine wirkliche Entdeckungsreise mit, indem sie die Talente dieses wundervollen gefühlvollen Spielers völlig ausbeutet.
Eddie Hessisons, der den zweiten Platz beim Coupe Mondiale 1981 machte, ist einer der führenden Akkordeonisten in Großbritannien. Er tritt mit dem Quintett ZUM auf, wenn er nicht als Solist oder als Musiker in Aufnahmestudios performt, auf. Er spielte auf vielen Hollywoodfilm Soundtracks, einschließlich „Captain Corelli`s Mandolin“, „Evita“, „Shrek“ und „Herr der Ringe“ und er spielte auf Alben verschiedener Künstler, einschließlich Lesley Garret, The Corrs und Ronan Keating.

“Squeezing on the High Seas” Kreuzfahrt – Neuseeland
Der schottische Akkordeon Entertainer John Macdonald rundet sein beschäftigtes Jahr mit Kabarettauftritten an Bord eines der Princess Kreuzfahrtschiffen „Love Boats“, der Pacific Princess ab.
John Macdonald wird im Dezember zur Südinsel Neuseelands fliegen und von dort das Schiff auf seiner zweiwöchigen Kreuzfahrt von Neuseeland nach Sydney zu begleiten. Das Schiff wird am 22. Dezember in Sydney anlegen und dort wird John eine Weihnachtsperformance geben.
Der Akkordeonstimmer, Techniker und Händler Alfonso Baldoni starb im Alter von 82 Jahren. Ursprünglich aus Castelfidardo in Italien, lebte Alfonso seit 1956 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Dort verdiente er sich durch seine fachlichen Fähigkeiten im Bezug auf das Akkordeon seinen Lebensunterhalt.
Baldonis Kunden waren Frankie Yankovic, Joey Miskulin, Dan Newton, Alison Krauss, CJ Chenier, Betty Jo Simon, Joe Derrane, Steve Meisner und Sheryl Crow.
Baldoni hinterlässt seine Frau Nancy, seinen Sohn Ivo, seine Tochter Annette Pigini und vier Enkelkinder. Eine private Feier wurde in Menomonee Falls gehalten und Alfonso Baldoni wurde in Castelfidardo beerdigt.
Kalender für Akkordeonliebhaber, Schottland – Großbritannien
Der Kalender für Akkordeonliebhaber für das Jahr 2007, der durch Photos von altehrwürdigen Akkordeons gekennzeichnet wird, wurde von Caroline Hunt aus Inverness, Schottland produziert.
Der 4. internationale Wettbewerb für junge Akkordeonisten findet in Kragujevac, Serbien vom 26. bis zum 31. März 2007 statt. Die Regeln und weitere Details für diesen Wettbewerb sind jetzt verfügbar.
Maria Merkelo, known as the accordion's ‘Champagne Lady’ at the University of Illinois, performed in two concerts within an hour in two theaters in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Urbana, on November 16th.
First, there was the 10th Annual Salvatore Martirano Award Concert in the Tryon Festival Theatre. Maria performed her part with the UI New Music Ensemble, conducted by Stephen Taylor, in a demanding piece scored for ten instruments titled ‘Dolmen for a New Albion’, by Nicholas Paul Vines.
Immediately following the performance of the Vines' work, Maria made her way to the Follinger Great Hall next door for a costume change and to prepare for her performance as the only instrumental soloist on that evening's program by the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Steven Larsen. The work was Dominick Argento's ‘Valentino Dances’, a popular Suite from his 1994 opera, ‘The Dream of Valentino’. Maria Merkelo brought to this performance the evocative sensuality that characterizes the tango.
On December 16th, Friedrich Lips performs E. Podgaits ‘Ex-Animo’ for bayan and string quartet with the famous Glinka Quartet: Julia Igonina, Helen Kharitonova, Aleksander Galkovsky and Oleg Smirnov. The concert takes place in the Concert Hall of the Russian Gnessin Music Academy, Moscow, and begins at 7pm.
On the 12th and 14th, Lips performed solo concerts in Moscow, with performances involving with premieres of compositions by A. Cholminov, R. Ledenjov, E. Podgaits and works by V. Zolotariev, Schuman, Schubert, Boccherini, Piazzolla, Chatchaturjan, Gershwin and Strauss.

Christmas Music Releases by Yehuda Oppenheimer - Israel. For the Christmas season, Yehuda Oppenheimer is releasing an impressive arrangement of an Aria by J. S. Bach. When this is performed, the music creates an organ-like atmosphere and the arrangement is designed to have the accordion sound with the distinctive style of Bach's choral music.
